Ivy laundry detergent is a sustainable solution to cleaning clothes. The ivy plant is growing throughout the entire year in forests, backyards, on the side of the road, and a lot of unexpected places, so it is easy to access and with this recipe anyone can make their own laundry detergent. It takes little skill or time and can be used the very next day. Let's hop into it then!

Recipe:

  1. Go out into nature and grab your ivy leaves. Depending on the size you'll need 60-100 ivy leaves to 1 liter of water

  1. Rinse the leaves in cold water to wash off any dirt or bugs

  2. Tear or cut the leaves into a couple of pieces and put them in a pot with water to boil for 15 minutes. If you are unsure if you got the good leaf-water ratio, the water should just about cover the leaves.

  1. Pour the mixture into a clean sealable container and let it sit overnight. If you forget about it, it will be okay to strain it later too if the container is clean and the lid closes airtight.

  1. Strain it into clean glass containers and use 100ml of the liquid per wash. If you want to keep the detergent for a longer time, put it into a colder room or place it in the fridge.
